This is an excellent book for those new to value investing (or investing in general). It is pretty easy to read and explains key investment principles taught by master investors such as Buffett and Soros. You’ll learn about owning shares of businesses, valuing investments, thinking like a contrarian, concentrating on the best investments, and how emotions may interfere with rational investing. Even experienced investors will likely find something they haven’t seen before including techniques for understanding an investment and constructing a future outlook. I would recommend reading this book before tackling heavier reading like The Intelligent Investor or Security Analysis.

This book brings very complex investment concepts I’ve only heard about and breaks it down to very understandable pieces. Investment concepts that took chapters in textbooks are unpacked into everyday language in several pages; it is quite remarkable. I’ve read other books that provide “recipes” for investing, but this is different; it goes deeper. Yee Ong emphases the underlying concepts that helps me understand the recipe-type investment books I have read.
